Your Questions Answered

The Lit Affair  ·  Your questions, answered

A few things you were dying to ask.

I have kept enough secrets in my time. These ones, I will share.

Inside every Lit Affair box you will find one carefully selected, gently used book — wrapped in brown kraft paper, sealed, and dressed with only a few tantalising clues written on the outside. A genre. A mood. Perhaps a single word that will haunt you until you tear the paper open.

You will also find a handwritten note from me, telling you why I chose this particular story for this particular moment. Think of it as a love letter from a librarian who has been waiting to introduce you to someone special.

What you will not find: the title, the author, or anything that resembles a spoiler. That is the whole affair, darling.

I choose by instinct, by season, and by something I can only describe as feeling. Every book in my collection has been read, inspected, and held up to the light before it earns a place in a box. I am not pulling titles at random from a warehouse shelf — I am making a recommendation the way a trusted friend would.

When you choose a genre — Romance, Horror, Mystery, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, or a wild card — you are giving me just enough to work with. The rest is my secret. I think about the kind of reader who gravitates toward that world, and I choose accordingly. Sometimes I get it exactly right. Sometimes I introduce you to something you never knew you needed. Either way, the affair tends to leave a mark.

Not every love story is meant to last, and I understand that. If your box arrives damaged or there is an issue on our end, please reach out within 7 days of delivery and I will make it right — a replacement, a refund, whatever the situation calls for.

However, because the mystery is the entire point of The Lit Affair, we are unable to accept returns on unwrapped books simply because the title was not what you hoped for. That is the gamble we both agreed to when this affair began. Think of it as a story that was not meant for this chapter of your life — perhaps pass it on to someone whose chapter it is.

To start a return conversation, simply write to me directly. I am always listening.

Every box is packed and dispatched within 2 to 3 business days of your order. Once it leaves my hands, standard shipping typically delivers within 5 to 7 business days domestically — though I confess the anticipation is part of the experience.

You will receive a tracking number the moment your box is on its way, so you can watch it travel toward you. Expedited shipping is available at checkout if the wait feels unbearable — which I completely understand.

Please note that during peak gifting seasons — Valentine's Day, the holidays — dispatch times may extend slightly. Order early. Good affairs are worth planning for.

A blind-date book box is perhaps the most romantic gift a person can give — and yes, absolutely. Simply enter the recipient's address at checkout and I will send the box directly to them, wrapped and ready.

If you would like to include a personal message alongside my note, leave it in the order notes at checkout and I will hand-write it on a separate card. No pricing information is ever included in the box, so it arrives as the gift it was always meant to be.

For larger gifting orders — events, book clubs, corporate gifting — write to me directly and we will arrange something fitting.

No. Not under any circumstances. Not if you ask very nicely. Not if you guess correctly and ask me to confirm. Not even then.

The mystery is not a gimmick — it is the entire philosophy of The Lit Affair. I have spent years believing that we reach for the same familiar books because we are afraid of being surprised, and that the books which change us most are the ones we never would have chosen ourselves. The sealed wrapper is an act of faith. Mine in you, and yours in me.

Trust the affair. The reveal is the whole point.

Still have a question I have not answered here? I read every message personally. Write to me and I will reply as soon as I surface from whatever I am currently reading.

Some things are worth asking directly.
